Course Long Title
COVID Rhetorics: Biopolitics and Necropolitics in a Global Pandemic
Description
This course examines the biopolitical and necropolitical underpinnings of discourses circulating around and about the global COVID-19 pandemic. Students explore a variety of rhetorical contexts—including public health campaigns, social media posts, and political discourse—to understand how COVID rhetorics make visible and exacerbate health inequities and vulnerabilities. Students interrogate COVID rhetorics as enactments of ableist, racist, and antifat power while also considering possibilities for more ethical ways of communicating about bodies in the context of a global pandemic.
