Dance Minor

Minor Requirements

The Dance minor consists of six credits

Creative Process
Complete at least two courses from the following:
Making Dances
Devising Performance
Making Dances II
Dance Repertory
Devising Performance
Cultural Context
Complete at least one course from the following:
Contemporary Issues in Dance
Embodying Activism: Performing a Living Definition
Dance Histories of the United States
Contemporary Issues in Dance
Embodying Activism: Performing a Living Definition
Dance Histories of the United States
Race and Ethnicity in Modern and Contemporary American Drama
Physical Practice
Complete at least two credits in Dance Technique. 1
Arts Elective
Complete at least one credit from the following:
Any Arts and Visual Culture course
Any Dance course
Any Music course
Any Theater course
Teaching through the Arts

Credits must include at least two different forms (e.g., DANC 240 Embodied Anatomy and Kinesthetics; DANC 270 Studio). DANC 270 courses may be repeated up to two times as contributions towards the Dance minor.

Courses Taken Outside of Bates

Dance minors who intend to study abroad should consult with their advisor well in advance of their junior year.

Pass/Fail

The use of the Pass/Fail option is restricted to one 100- or 200-level course within the minor.

Restricted Declarations

Students who have declared the Dance minor may not declare the following:

  • Dance major
  • Dance (C011) GEC
