Russian Minor
Minor Requirements
A minor requires a minimum of seven courses in Russian area studies. At least four of the seven courses must be taught in Russian, while up to three courses on Russian history and culture may be taken in translation.
Courses Taken Outside of Bates
Russian minors are strongly encouraged to deepen their engagement with Russian language and culture through the experience of studying abroad. The completion of two college-level Russian courses is typically required before commencing a study-abroad program.
Minors may count a maximum of two credits for one semester of study and three credits for two semesters of study in a recognized program toward the completion of the minor.
Students should discuss their plans for off-campus study with their faculty advisor before going abroad; otherwise, credit toward the minor is not guaranteed.
The use of the Pass/Fail option is restricted to one course within the minor.
Restricted Declarations
Students who have declared the Russian minor may not declare the following:
- Russian Language and Culture (C069) GEC
Other Considerations
One Short Term course may count toward the minor in Russian.
