Sound (C005)
Concentration Coordinator: Dale Chapman
This concentration is a wide-ranging exploration of the nature of sound. Topics include the physical nature of sound production, organismal perception of sound, and sonic elements in the performing arts.
Concentration Requirements
Complete four credits designated with the (C005) concentration attribute, comprising two credits from List A and two credits from List B.
Students selecting MUS 270 Applied Music or MUS 290 Musical Ensemble Performance need to complete any two sections to receive one course credit.

Courses Taken Outside of Bates
Two non-Bates credits may be applied toward the concentration if judged comparable to one of those below by the concentration coordinator and with prior approval.

Bates Default: Students who have declared this concentration may declare any other major, minor, or concentration.
Other Considerations
One music performance co-curricular component may substitute for one music course. One independent study, pre-approved by the coordinator, may also count toward the concentration.
